My creative process

When I'm not sketching or painting, I'm either walking with my dogs or working in my garden.  My work is so often inspired by nature so I'm constantly looking and taking in the sense of a place.  Creating a garden is so like painting, choosing a palette, composition and design - also letting Mother Nature give me the happy accidents!

'Making art is who I am rather than what I do'

My abstract realism paintings are inspired by my environment. I explore my own emotional response to a time and place as well as the particular energy of the weather and the light.  I endeavour to capture the essence and a sense of a place.

Initially, I work outside in the landscape and create sketches and written notes. I focus on the light, the sounds around me and the energy of the place.

My purely abstract work reflects my internal landscape.

I work with a variety of materials intuitively with a focus on process. Initially I give no conscious thought to the work as I add layers of paint, and or other materials. Once I get to a point when the work ‘feels’ right I will begin the process of refinement with much more conscious cognition.

My paintings are with private collectors throughout the UK, Holland, Australia and the U.S.
